Safe Driving This Summer

Whilst driving on the roads in the summer may not be as dangerous with regards to skidding on icy roads, there are still many tips you should follow to drive safely this summer!

Take Regular Breaks
In the summer more than ever it is important to take regular breaks. You are likely to become tired much faster than in other seasons due to there being more strain on your eyes from the sunlight. Taking regular breaks helps your eyes to have a rest from the bright light. You may also find that you get hot faster, taking regular breaks gives you time to have a drink safely without taking your attention away from the road.

Car Temperature
When driving in the summer you need to keep an eye on the temperature of your car. It is much more likely to overheat during the hot summer months. The best way you can prevent this is by again taking regular breaks. You should also make sure your car is topped up with fluid before setting off on your journey.

Keep Your Keys Dry
It is super easy in the summer months to damage your car keys. Whether this is you have placed them in the sand or accidentally taken them swimming with you. Either of these options can damage your keys. You should always keep your keys dry and away from sand to ensure they will still work. If you find your key does not work to open your door, there is normally an alternative unlock method on your cars door which you can find in your handbook.

Look Out For Tractors
If driving on country roads this summer, remember to look out for tractors. In the summer months, you are more likely to see tractors driving around. These travel much slower than cars, so treat them like you would a cyclist or horse. Only overtake when it is safe to do so.
