The Different Types of Trucking Used In The United States

In the United States, trucking is the dominant mode of domestic freight transportation. The county has a modern road system and few borders with other countries. Because of this it is most cost effective for companies that need haulage to be carried out to employ the services of trucking companies.

The types of trucking are divided between several different sub categories. The larger transportation methods consist of for-hire trucking, long-haul, regional truckload carriers, less-than-truckload carriers, private, and shipper-owned fleets.

Smaller operators employ what are known as drayage truckers. These haul international containers from rail yards and seaports. There are also flatbed companies that handle heavy freight transportation.

Almost anything can be hauled, from large aeroplane fuselages  to wind turbine sections. There is little limit to the load capacity of trucking. Another reason why it is employed more so when compared with other methods such as aeroplane haulage.
